Already named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, Sir’Dominic Pointer has earned Co-Player of the Week accolades from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA). The honor marks the third MBWA Player of the Week award for Pointer, who averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals in wins against Georgetown and Xavier.
Pointer matched a career-high with 24 points against Georgetown to reach double-figures for the 14th-straight game. The swingman grabbed seven rebounds, swatted two shots and dished out two assists as the Red Storm recorded its 20th win of the season with an 81-70 triumph against the Hoyas.
Earlier in the week, Pointer finished with 19 points, nine boards, six blocks, four steals and three assists to help lead St. John’s past Xavier. Pointer became the 50th player in St. John’s history to reach the 1,000-point milestone with a tip-in at the 6:34 mark of the first half.
Pointer, who has also earned six BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll mentions this season, ranks ninth in the league with a career-high 14.0 points per game and ranks fourth with a career-best 7.6 rebounds. The senior is shooting 54.0 percent from the field, sixth in the league, and also ranks among the top-10 with 2.6 blocks (3rd), 2.0 steals (3rd) and 2.9 assists (15th).
