Manhattan Suffers Tough Round 1 loss to Iona, 70-67

Much like any great fight between two heavyweights, there will be multiple rounds in the series that is this historic rivalry of Manhattan versus Iona.

On February 13, 2015 the game a 70-67 victory as well as the round belonged to the Iona Gaels (20-6; 12-2 MAAC). With the victory tonight Head Coach Tim Cluess becomes the first ever Iona Coach with Five 20-win seasons.

Manhattan however did not go out this round without giving Iona everything they had in what was a thriller in the sold out Draddy Gym on Friday.

Leading the way for the Jaspers on the offense was Senior Emmy Andujar who had 17 points, the forward also had nine rebounds, four steals, three assist and one block in the game.

There were two other players in double-figure scoring as Ashton Pankey recorded 16 points, while Shane Richards finished the night with 12 points.

For Iona they were led by a unique combination as a Senior and a Freshmen were tied for 22 points in AJ  English and Schadrac Casimir. For Casimir, the first-year player looked very comfortable playing in front of a hostile crowd and showed his team some of the moves that have impressed during the course of practice.

Fans of both teams can expect the exact same action for Round 2 which will be held at Iona on Friday, February 27. Prior to that though Manhattan will have to rebound quickly from the loss as they will host Fairfield on Sunday with the tip set for 2:00 p.m.
