For the third-consecutive week, senior swingman Sir’Dominic Pointer was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Pointer averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 blocks, while shooting 50.0 percent (12-of-24) from the floor in two contests.
Pointer scored a team-high 19 points against Butler (Feb. 3), while adding six rebounds, two blocks and one steal. He shot 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from the floor and made 5-of-6 free throws (83.3 percent).
In a win against Creighton (Feb. 7), Pointer scored 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting to go with seven rebounds and a career-high eight blocks. The eight-block effort matched Chris Obekpa for the highest single-game total in the BIG EAST this season.
Sir’Dominic has reached double-figures in eight-straight games and is averaging 15.8 points and 7.6 rebounds to go with three double-doubles in that same stretch.
Pointer ranks 13th in the league in scoring with a career-best 12.4 points per game and is tied for fourth with 7.3 boards. He is shooting 51.6 percent from the floor (6th), while also ranking among league-leaders with 2.4 blocks (3rd), 2.0 steals (3rd), 3.2 assists (12th) and a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio (8th). Pointer averages 33.5 minutes per game, which ranks fifth.
St. John’s returns to action at Carnesecca Arena on Feb. 11, hosting DePaul for a 9 p.m. game. The contest will air on CBS Sports Network with radio coverage on 570 AM (WMCA).
