The 107th Battle of the Bronx was won by Manhattan College (4-7) though Fordham University (3-6) gave it their best shot throughout the game, as the Jaspers earned the 71-57 victory at the Barclays Center thanks to the defensive play by the team.
Fordham had the early lead in the early portion of the First Half of play, but Manhattan used the combination of their great defensive play along with shooting for 50% from the 3-point arc to eventually gain the victory.
Leading the way for the Jaspers was Senior Forward Emmy Andujar who was one of three players in double-figure scoring. Andujar finished with 14 points to reach double-figures for the sixth-straight game, while also collecting nine rebounds and was awarded the Mike Cohen MVP Award.
Shane Ricards and Ashton Pankey both recorded 12 points each. Richards finished the night shooting 4-of-6 from the 3-Point Arc, while Pankey did his damage from the field going 5-of-10.
For the Rams who continued to fight till the end of the game, only saw one player in double-figure scoring with three others finishing the night very close to reaching that mark. Leading the way for Fordham was Mandell Thomas who had 14 points. Ryan Roomes, Chris Sengfelder and Antoine Anderson all had eight points each.
Manhattan will now head into Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Play with a road trip to Upstate on January 2 and 4 to take on Niagara and Canisius respectively. The Jaspers will return home on January 7 to take on Saint Peter’s with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Fordham will be back in action on December 28, when they play host to Howard University, with the tip-off for that game scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
