Fordham Head Football Coach Joe Moorhead’s Contract Extended

Fordham University athletics director David Roach has announced that football head coach Joe Moorhead’s contract has been extended by one year and will now run through the 2022 season. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“Coach Moorhead has done a tremendous job the past three years and we are excited that he will be leading our football program for the years to come,” said Roach. “Coach Moorhead is a true man of Fordham who is not only a great football coach but also an excellent representative of Fordham University.  You only have to see how our student-athletes respond to his leadership and vision to see what a great job he has done here.  We all look forward to next season and future seasons with Joe Moorhead as our head coach.”

Moorhead just completed his third season at Fordham as the Rams went 11-3 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA FCS Championship for the second season and only the third time in school history.

This fall, Moorhead led the Rams to their first Patriot League title since 2007 as the Rams went a perfect 6-0 in league play. The Rams were ranked as high as seventh in the NCAA FCS. Moorhead had a record 20 players earn All-Patriot League honors, including quarterback Mike Nebrich, who was named Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year, and freshman running back Chase Edmonds, the 2014 Patriot League Rookie of the Year.

The Fordham offense continued to excel under Moorhead, a former Ram quarterback, setting school single season records for most points (569), most rushing yards (2,353) and most rushing touchdowns (31) while Edmonds broke school single season marks for rushing yards (1,838) and rushing touchdowns (23).

In the classroom, two of Moorhead’s players earned Academic All-America honors® with Brett Biestek being named to the First Team for the second straight year and Dan Light to the second team.

“I am very grateful to Father McShane, the Board of Trustees, Dave Roach and Jeff Gray for their continued support and unwavering commitment to Fordham Football,” said Moorhead. “My staff and I will continue to do everything in our power to continue the success we have experienced the past three years, on the field, in the classroom and in the community. We are determined to continue to provide to Fordham University, its alumni, faculty, staff and fans a program of which can be proud. I remain very excited for the future.”
