The No. 7 Villanova Men’s Basketball team (9-0) were able to remain undefeated with a hard earned 73-59 victory over Illinois (7-2) in the First of Two games to be played at Madison Square Garden as a part of the Jimmy V Classic.
Leading the way for Wildcats was Junior Guard Dylan Ennis (Brampton, Ontario) who was one of four players in double-digit scoring. leading all with 18 points. Ennis had a great shooting performance for Villanova finishing the night 7-for-10 from the field.
Senior Guard Darrun Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Junior Forward Daniel Ochefu (Baltimore, Md.) both recorded 12 points each. Ochefu was especially a presence in the inside post for the Wildcats, making several sweet low post moves during the course of the game.
In a game that saw the score tied twice and six lead changes the packed Madison Square Garden crowd enjoyed a great performance by both teams.
Illinois did not go down without a fight making things difficult for Villanova for most of the night. Leading the way for the Fighting Illini was Malcolm Hill who scored a career-high 20 points.
