Team Effort leads St. John’s to 70-61 victory over Minnesota

The St. John’s Men’s Basketball team (4-0) were preparing for this moment for a while, and they proved to a lot of people this will be a team to watch for in the 2014-15 season, with a 70-61 victory over Minnesota (3-2) in the NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

Every single player that touched the floor contributed and hustled from beginning to the end, which eventually led to the victory. Three players finished in double-digit scoring for St. John’s as Senior Guard D’Angelo Harrison (Missouri, City Texas) who had a huge four point play with 2:23 left was one of many that helped the team earn the win.

Sophomore Guard Rysheed Jordan (Philadelphia, Pa) had a strong showing with 18 points and Senior Guard/Forward Sir’Dominic Pointer (Detroit, Mich.) recorded 10 points, grabbed nine rebounds while also finishing off some nice dunks during the course of the game.

One of the huge positive trends for the Red Storm was the play of the Defense who recorded 16 steals, while Junior Forward/Center Chris Obekpa (Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria) continues to be a shot-blocking threat recording three in the game.

St. John’s is currently awaiting the winner of the other Semifinal game between Georgetown and Gonzaga.
