Fordham Football Host Lafayette on National TV

The Fordham University football Rams continue their 2014 Patriot League season, the 115th season of varsity football at Rose Hill, when they host the Lafayette College Leopards on Friday, October 3, on Jack Coffey Field at 6:30 pm. The game can be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on wfuv.org and will be broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network with Jason Horowitz (p-b-p), London Fletcher (color) and Melanie Collins (sidelines) announcing.

#16/19 Fordham (2-2, 1-0) enters the game after a 45-16 Patriot League win at Holy Cross last Saturday. Lafayette (2-2, 0-0) enters the game after a 35-23 home win over Wagner last week.

The Rams will be playing on a Friday night for the first time since 1992 (at Hofstra) and at home on aFriday for the first time since 1976. It will also be one of three CBS Sports Network appearances for Fordham (at Bucknell and at Army) as the Rams celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first ever televised college football game when the Rams hosted Waynesburg State at Randall’s Island on September 30, 1939.

This will be the 33rd meeting between Fordham and Lafayette on the gridiron with the Leopards leading the all-time series, which started in 1903, 22-9-1. Lafayette took last year’s game, 28-14, at Fisher Stadium as Ross Scheuerman rushed 23 times for 169 yards and two scores and Drew Reed completed 17 of 32 passes for 239 yards and a score.

Rams Notes:

Senior placekicker Michael Marando was recognized by the Fred Mitchell Award for his September performance. He is one of 24 collegiate placekickers to be recognized by the organization for the month.

Marando, who was named second team preseason All-America for 2014 by Beyond Sports Network and preseason All-Patriot League, has connected on seven of his ten field goal attempts in 2014 as well as all 25 of his PATs. He leads all Patriot League kickers in scoring, averaging 9.2 points per game, and is second in Patriot League in 17th in the NCAA FCS in field goals/game (1.40).

On Monday September 29, 2014 Quarterback Mike Nebrich and freshman running back Chase Edmonds were named the Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week. Additionally, Nebrich was also named a College Sporting News All-Stars.
