The Hofstra Men’s Basketball program was picked third in the preseason Blue Ribbon Forecast, released recently.
Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, now in its 34th edition, is widely known as the “bible” of college basketball. It’s a 400-page preseason preview guide with full stories on all Division I teams.
The book ships in mid-October and the tablet version is available for download on Monday.
In addition to the Pride being picked third, junior guard Juan’ya Green (Philadelphia, PA) was named to the preseason all-conference team and was also chosen as the newcomer of the year by the publication.
There is renewed excitement surrounding the Hofstra Basketball program this season as the roster features three returning starters and the addition of four student-athletes who sat out last season. In addition, four talented newcomers will be on the roster this season as well.
Green will be playing his first year for the Pride in 2014-15 after playing two seasons at Niagara and then sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules. He averaged 17.7 points as a freshman and followed that up with 16.5 points per game as a sophomore for Niagara. In 2012-13 he was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) first team and was also a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) all-district selection.
Hofstra opens the 2014-15 campaign on Friday, November 14 when it hosts Jacksonville as part of a doubleheader with the women’s basketball team. The women will host Central Connecticut State at 6 p.m. and that game will be followed by the men taking on Jacksonville.
