Cosmos Find Effort in 1-1 Draw to Minnesota United FC

It may not have been the result the New York Cosmos (2-3-3) were hoping for, but at the end of the day the team was starting to show the effort needed to potentially make a run during the second half of the 2014 North American Soccer League Fall Season.

Playing with only 10 on the field, as Jimmy Maurer was shown a straight red in the 6th minute after taking down Minnesota midfielder Daniel Mendes.  Christian Ramirez was able to capitalize on the penalty kick that was to come, that gave the visiting team a 1-0 lead.

Coming in to play extremely well for the Cosmos in the cage was Kyle Zobeck, who made some key stops in his debut with the team.

New York though was not going to go down without a fight, as  Hagop ChirishianAndres Flores and Stefan Dimitrov had all had quality opportunities sprinkled in throughout the match.

Head Coach Giovanni Savarese made the call to his bench and put in Jemal Johnson and Mads Stokkelien into the game, that move was rewarded as the two combined to have some very good opportunities for the Cosmos in the Second Half of play.

Stokkelien who was very aggressive in getting shots to the cage, was finally rewarded in the 74 minute, getting his foot on the game-tying goal. Mads was not done as the forward continued his aggressive play till the end of the game.

On this night, though the team had to overcome many obstacles, and were not able to get the result they were hoping for, at least the effort was there-and many on the team feel that if they can continue that play they will be a team to watch for during the rest of the 2014 NASL Fall Season.

The Cosmos will be on the road to take on Indy Eleven on August 30, but will return back home to Shuart Stadium on September 6 when they host the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, which is scheduled to start at 7:o0 p.m.
