The New York Cosmos announced on Monday that the team has signed defender Connor Lade on loan from the New York Red Bulls. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“I’m very excited to be joining the Cosmos,” Lade said. “I look at it as a chance to join another quality organization and continue my professional development and work on all aspects of my game.”
Lade, 24, was born in Morristown, NJ and joined the New York Red Bulls Academy in 2007. Lade played his college soccer at St. John’s University, where he teamed with fellow Red Storm alum, Cosmos midfielder Jimmy Mulligan for multiple seasons before being signed to a contract with the Red Bulls in 2011.
Lade, who has experience as both a defender and a midfielder, debuted for the Red Bulls in 2012, making 22 regular season starts and recording three assists for the team in his first season. Lade has appeared in 36 regular season games for the Red Bulls as a professional and was recently selected to participate in the Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game – an all-star game showcasing the league’s top homegrown talent.
“Connor Lade is a talented young player who was able to contribute for the Red Bulls immediately as a rookie,” head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “We feel he will have a great opportunity here with the Cosmos to grow as a player and try to earn an opportunity to contribute to our team this season.”
