The New York Liberty (7-11) earned their third straight victory over the reigning WNBA Champions the Minnesota Lynx (13-6) in WNBA action at Madison Square Garden. The win snapped a six-game winning streak against the Liberty for the Lynx.
With the Garden rocking the New York Liberty continued their trend of playing hard and smart to gain the win. The Liberty had four players that finished with double-digit scoring as Tina Charles, Cappie Pondexter, Anna Cruz and Plenette Pierson rounded out the top scoring.
Charles and Pondexter both had double-doubles, the first time this season that two players had a double-double, as Tina recorded a career-high 32 points and 10 boards, while Pondexter had 18 points and 11 boards. Meanwhile both Pierson and Cruz both finished with 10 points each.
There were several fine performances and big buckets throughout the game. Alex Montgomery had a big three in the first quarter, and played some good defense against Maya Moore. Charde Houston is looking more and more comfortable with the team making a couple of smooth moves. Sugar Rodgers continues to provide a positive spark for New York on both ends of the court and DeLisha Milton-Jones showed some nice fight in addition to jumpers in the game.
New York will be on the road to take on the San Antonio Stars for one game on July 9 before returning home to take on the Los Angeles Sparks on July 11, with the tip-off time for that game set for 7:30 p.m.
