Here are some notes as the New York Islanders (31-37-11) finish out the regular season on the road beginning with a trip to Montreal to take on the Canadiens (45-27-8) in NHL action on Thursday night.
4/8/14: NYI 1 vs. OTT 4
Jason Spezza’s goal with 7:15 remaining in the third period broke open a 1-1 game, as the Ottawa Senators defeated the New York Islanders 4-1 Tuesday night at Nassau Coliseum in the team’s home finale. Frans Nielsen scored the Islanders lone goal –his 25th of the season –pulling the home team into a 1-1 tie early in the third period, but the Senators pulled away with three goals in the back half of the final frame.
The Islanders begin a season-ending three game road trip tonight in Montreal. The Isles are 6-4-1 in their last 11 games against Montreal, but are 0-1-1 this season.
NHL Debuts: Brett Gallant made his NHL debut Tuesday vs. Ottawa, becoming the seventh Islander to debut this season. He joined Kevin Czuczman, Mike Halmo, Scott Mayfield, John Persson, Ryan Strome and Johan Sundstrom.
Hot Hand: Josh Bailey has seven points (2g/5a) in his last six games. His next point will set a new career high (36).
Iron-Man: Thomas Hickey is the only Islander that has appeared in every game this season.
Strome: Ryan Strome was named to the AHL’s All-Rookie Team on Wednesday.
The Islanders and Canadiens game is set to air on the MSG Plus 2 Network, with face-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
