Islanders v Lightning 3/27/14

Here are some notes as the New York Islanders (28-35-9) are on the road getting ready to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning (39-24-9) in NHL action on Thursday night.

LAST GAME:

3/25/14: NYI 5 at CAR 4
The New York Islanders grinders hit the scoresheet in a big way Tuesday night, as Colin McDonald and Matt Martin each scored two goals in a wild 5-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena. McDonald had a three-point game (two goals, one assist), while linemate Ryan Strome had two assists –including the game-winning pass to Martin late in the second period –as the Islanders third line combined for seven points.

 

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP:

The Islanders look to exten their winning streak to three games tonight in Tampa as they face the Lightning for the third and final time this season. Each of the first two meeting between these clubs were decided in a shootout, with the road team taking home the extra point.
TEAM NOTES:

Road Warriors: The Isles are 13-4-1 in their last 18 road games.

Hot Hand: Cal Clutterbuck has four goals in his last six games. The Islanders are 8-2-1 when Clutterbuck scores.

Grinders: Grinders Colin McDonald (2G, 1A), Matt Martin (2G) and Cal Clutterbuck (1G) scored all five Islanders goals in the team’s 5-4 win on Tuesday.

Streaking: The Islanders have won two straight while Clutterbuck (2G), Travis Hamonic (1G, 2A) and Calvin de Haan (2A) are all riding two-game point streaks.

Czuczman: Kevin Czuczman picked up his first NHL point – an assist – on Tuesday night.

 

The Islanders and Lighting game is set to air on the MSG Plus Network, with face-off scheduled for 7:30 pm
