Islanders v Stars 1/6/14

Here are some notes as the New York Islanders (14-22-7) play host to the Dallas Stars (20-14-7) in NHL action at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Monday night.

LAST GAME

1/4/14: NYI 2 vs. CAR 3

The Islanders had their three-game winning streak snapped Saturday night, falling 3-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes at Nassau Coliseum. John Tavares and Thomas Vanek scored for the Islanders, who fell to Carolina for the third time this season.

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP

The Islanders conclude a three-game homestand tonight with their first game against the Stars since 2011. The teams met twice in December 2011, with each team winning on the other’s ice.

TEAM NOTES

Point Streaks: Thomas Vanek is on a career-high, eight-game point streak (5g/7a). John Tavares has points in five straight games (4g/4a), while Andrew MacDonald is on a four-game assist streak (0g/6a). Kyle Okposo saw his eight-game point streak (6g/7a) come to an end Saturday against the Hurricanes.

Back-To-Backs: The Islanders open their 11th set of back-to-back games tonight. They are 4-6-0 on the front end, and 3-5-2 on the back-end of back-to-backs this season. The club will total 16 back-to-back sets this season.

Nabby In Net: Evgeni Nabokov has started nine of 10 games since returning from a groin injury Dec. 14. He’s gone 4-3-2 with a 2.21 GAA since his return.

Tavares and MacDonald: John Tavares and Andrew MacDonald are each riding four-game point streaks. Tavares has four goals and three assists while MacDonald has six assists on his current run.
