The Manhattan College Men’s Basketball team (11-2, 4-0 MAAC) have been one to keep an eye on for quite a while. Playing an impressive style of basketball, which has lead their team to eight straight victories and the best start in conference play since the 2005-06 season.
Saturday night’s 83-57 victory over Fairfield (3-11, 0-4) was just a sampling of what Manhattan can do, as the guys blended great outside shooting along with impressive post performances to keep their winning streak going.
Four different players finished the game in double figure scoring for the Jaspers, who were led by Senior Guard/Forward George Beamon (Roslyn, N.Y.) who led all players with his 19 points. Beamon was followed by Freshman Guard Rich Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who had 14, Sophomore Forward Shane Richards (New York, N.Y.) had 13 and Senior Forward/Center Rhamel Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 12 to round out the scoring.
Every player who dressed for the Jaspers saw at least eight minutes and all 11 Jaspers scored to provide Manhattan’s largest margin of victory this season. Manhattan’s current eight-game win streak matches the 2011-12 team, which won eight in a row from January 8 to February 2, 2012
The Jaspers also played an impressive side of defensive basketball picking-up 14 steals in the game, while holding Fairfield to 57 points which was a season low for a Manhattan opponent.
