The Islanders scoured four power-play goals en route to a 5-3 come-from-behind win over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night at TD Garden. John Tavares led the charge with four points (two goals, two assists), while Kyle Okposo had a goal and two assists and Frans Nielsen scored two power-plays goals.

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP

The Islanders begin 2014 with a three-game homestand, beginning tonight against the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks won the first meeting of the season 3-2 at United Center on October 11. The Isles are 6-2-2 in the last ten games against Chicago.

TEAM NOTES

Point Streaks: Kyle Okposo is on a seven-game point streak (5g/5a) and has posted back-to-back three point games for the first time in his career. Thomas Vanek is on a six game point streak (3g/6a).

Century Club: Casey Cizikas is expected to play in his 100th NHL game tonight.

Consecutive Comebacks: Courtesy Elias: The Islanders overcame a 3-1 deficit in their 5-3 win at Boston on New Year’s Eve, after surmounting a 3-0 deficit in their 5-4 victory at Minnesota on Sunday night. It’s the first time in franchise history that the Islanders have won consecutive games, both on the road, while overcoming a deficit of two goals or more in each game. The only other NHL team to record a two-game winning streak of that kind over the last three seasons is the Ducks, who did so a little over a week ago (Dec. 21 at Islanders, Dec. 23 at Washington).

Four-Point Games: John Tavares tallied two goals and two assists in the Islanders’ 5-3 come-from-behind victory over the Bruins. It was the seventh time that Tavares scored four or more points in one game in his five-year NHL career. Only four NHL players have more four-point games since Tavares entered the NHL: Sidney Crosby/Ryan Getzlaf (11), Niklas Backstrom/Evgeni Malkin (9).

Vanek: Thomas Vanek is riding a six-game point streak (3g/6a).

Last 10: The Isles are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games.

Power Play: The Islanders power play converted four of their first six opportunities Tuesday night in Boston.

MILESTONE WATCH

Casey Cizikas – 1 game shy of 100

John Tavares – 7 points shy of 300

The Islanders and Blackhawks game is set to air on the MSG Plus network, with face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
