Islanders v Ducks 12/9/13

Here are some notes as the New York Islanders (8-17-5) who are on the road getting ready to take on the Anaheim Ducks (20-7-5) in NHL action on Monday night.

LAST GAME:

12/7/13: NYI 0 at LAK 3

Anze Kopitar broke a scoreless tie midway through the second period and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Islanders 3-0 Saturday at Staples Center. The loss extended the Islanders’ winless streak to nine games (0-7-2) and was their ninth straight road loss.

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP:

The Islanders play game three of their five-game road trip tonight in Anaheim. The Isles have not faced Anaheim in 23 months, but will now face the Ducks twice in a two-week span. The home team has won four of the last five meetings between these clubs, with all but one game being decided by a single goal. The Isles are 2-2-1 in those five games.

TEAM NOTES:

Hot Hands: Kyle Okposo (2g/2a) and Andrew MacDonald (1g/2a) each saw their three-game point streaks come to a close Saturday in Los Angeles.

Back To Backs: The Islanders begin their eighth of 16 back-to-back sets this season. They are 3-4-0 in the front-end and 1-4-2 on the back end of back-to-backs in 2013-14.

Pacific Record: The Islanders are 2-2-1 against Pacific division opponents this season.

MILESTONE WATCH:

Josh Bailey – 13 assists shy of 100

John Tavares – 19 points shy of 300

The Islander and Ducks game is set to air on the MSG Plus Network, with face-off slated for 10:00 p.m.
