Frans Nielsen‘s trademark backhand capped off a thrilling shootout win, as the New York Islanders clipped the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 Saturday Night at Nassau Coliseum. Goaltender Kevin Poulin relieved an injured Evgeni Nabokov in the first period and stopped all three shootout attempts in the skills competition.
The Islanders begin a three-game road trip tonight with their first of three meetings this season against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Isles have won their last three games in Toronto, outscoring the Leafs 17-9, and are 3-0-2 overall their last five games against Toronto.
