Islanders v Blue Jackets Notes 11/9/13

Here are some notes as the New York Islanders (6-7-3) are on the road getting ready to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets (5-10-0) in NHL action on Saturday Night.

LAST GAME:

11/7/13: NYI 0 at CAR 1
Islanders goalie Kevin Poulin was nearly perfect Thursday, allowing only a first period deflection goal to Radek Dvorak. However, Carolina goalie Justin Peters was even better, as he and the Hurricanes blanked the Islanders 1-0 at PNC Center.
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
The Islanders’ four-game road trip continues tonight with the second meeting of 2013-14 between the Isles and Blue Jackets. In the first meeting this season, Columbus rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Isles 3-2 in a shootout and spoil the Islander home opener. The Isles have won only once in their eight previous trips to Columbus, a 4-3 overtime win in March, 2010.

200th Game: Defenseman Travis Hamonic is expected to play in his 200th NHL game tonight. The Islanders selected the 23-year-old in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft.
Team Scoring: Thursday’s 1-0 loss in Carolina marked the first time this season the Islanders failed to score at least two goals in a game.
Back-To-Backs: Tonight marks the front-end of the Islanders’ fifth back-to-back set this season. They are 3-1-0 on the front end of a back-to-back, and 1-2-1 in the second game.
UPCOMING MILESTONES

The Islanders and Blue Jackets game is set to air on the MSG Plus network, with face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
