Islanders v Hurricanes Notes 11/7/13

Here are some notes for our New York Islanders (6-6-3) who are on the road getting ready to take on the Carolina Hurricanes (5-7-3) in NHL action on Thursday night.

11/5/13: NYI 2 at WSH 6
Washington scored five goals in the second period, including two by Alex Ovechkin on the power play as the Caps erased a 1-0
Islander lead after 20 minutes and defeated the Isles 6-2 before a crowd of 18,506 at Verizon Center.

The Islanders four-game road trip continues tonight in Raleigh, as the Isles face the Hurricanes for the second time this
season. Carolina defeated the Islanders 4-3 in the first meeting on October 19. The are 2-0-2 in their last four visits to Raleigh.

NHL Scoring Race: Kyle Okposo places fourth in the NHL scoring race with 19 points; his 14 assists are tied for third in the league. Frans Nielsen (8g/9a) and John Tavares (7g/10a) are tied for ninth in the NHL scoring race with 17 points each.

Shot Blocker: Andrew MacDonald leads the NHL with 55 blocked shots. Last season he tied for third in the league with 123 blocks, two shy of the leader.

Heavy Hitter: Matt Martin leads the NHL with 69 hits. He’s led the league in hits in each of the last two seasons. In 2011-12, Martin’s 374 hits marked the highest total since hits became an official stat in 2005-06.

The Islanders and Hurricanes game is set to air on the MSG Plus 2 network, with face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
