Here are some notes for our New York Islanders (0-0-0) fans as the team is getting ready for the season opener against the New Jersey Devils (0-1-0) in Newark, NJ:

2013 PRESEASON RECAP
The Islanders went 4-4-0 in eight exhibition games this preseason. They were the home team in four different buildings, including the first ever NHL game at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (9/21) and one true home game at Nassau Coliseum (9/27). The Islanders concluded the preseason with three straight victories. John Tavares (4g/1a) and Matt Moulson (1g/4a) led the team in scoring with five points in each four games.
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
The Islanders open their 42nd season tonight against the New Jersey Devils. It’s the first of five meetings this season with New Jersey, who will be the only team to visit the Coliseum three times for the second straight season. The Isles won last season’s series 3 games to 2 (and 6 points to 5), winning both games at Prudential Center.

TEAM NOTES:
Season Openers: The Islanders are 9-21-10 all time in season openers (2-3-2 home, 7-18-8 road). The Isles are 10-22-8 all time in their first road game of the season.
Openers vs. NJ: This is the fifth time the Isles have opened the season against the Devils and New Jersey has won the first four (1984 and 1992 at the Meadowlands, 2008 at The Rock and Jan. 2013 at the Coliseum). The Isles also opened the 1975-76 season with a 1-1 tie in Kansas City (the Devils’ original home).
NHL Debut: Griffin Reinhart is the only player on the Islanders’ 23-man roster who has yet to make his NHL debut. Brock Nelson has yet to make his NHL regular-season debut.
Islanders Debut: Only two players on the Islanders’ 23-man roster have yet to make their team debuts: Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Peter Regin. Last season on opening night, that number was eight.
Rookies: The Islanders 23-man roster features three rookies: Matt Donovan, Brock Nelson and Griffin Reinhart.
Captains Named: John Tavares was named the 14th captain in Islanders history on Sep. 9. Andrew MacDonald was named an alternate captain Oct. 1. Kyle Okposo enters his fifth season as alternate captain.
Shootout Leader: Frans Nielsen has the highest career shootout percentage (25-for-45, 55.6%) in NHL history (minimum seven attempts).
Active Iron-Man Streak: John Tavares leads the Islanders with 207 consecutive regular-season games played.
Under Capuano: The Islanders are 84-83-28 under Head Coach Jack Capuano. He is second on the Islanders all-time list in both games coached (195) and wins (84), behind Al Arbour (1,500 coached, 740 wins). Capuano will coach his 200th game on Oct. 12 in Nashville.
