The New York Liberty announced on Thursday their final roster for the 2013 season. The ladies begin their regular season play against the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, May 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena. New York will then host the Tulsa Shock on Opening Night on Friday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Prudential Center.
New York will be led by All-Star Cappie Pondexter, Essence Carson, Plenette Pierson, Kara Braxton, Leilani Mitchell and Alex Montgomery. The ladies will welcome the addition of proven veterans Cheryl Ford and Katie Smith, who have both won championships during their WNBA Careers.
Three rookies will join the roster and will make their WNBA debuts, as first round selection Kelsey Bone (fifth overall) and Toni Young (seventh overall) along with Kamiko Williams.
Bill Laimbeer makes his return to the WNBA in his first season as the head coach and general manager of the New York Liberty. In eight seasons with the Detroit Shock, Laimbeer led the team to six-straight playoff appearances, including three WNBA Championships while also being named the 2003 Coach of the Year.
