Here are some notes for those fans that are getting ready to watch the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal Game Two matchup between the New York Islanders and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Game One Recap:
Beau Bennett scored 3:30 into the game and Pascal Dupuis added two goals as the Penguins skated to a 5-0 victory over the Islanders in Game One.
Playoff Notes:
12 Islanders made their Stanley Cup Playoff debuts in Game One: Josh Bailey, Casey Cizikas, Travis Hamonic, Thomas Hickey, Matt Martin, Andrew MacDonald, Colin McDonald, Matt Moulson, Frans Nielsen, Kyle Okposo, Kevin Poulin and John Tavares.
All-Time Playoff Meetings Isles vs. Penguins:
1975: Quarterfinals (Islanders won in 7): New York dropped the first three games to Pittsburgh, but completed a comeback in seven games. Ed Westfall’s third period goal was the lone one in Game 7, as the Islanders became the first team since 1942 to erase a 3-0 deficit to win a best-of-7-series.
1982: Preliminary Series (Islanders won in t): It was a back-and-forth series, but the two-time champion Islanders came through in the end. In the deciding game, trailing 3-1 in the third period, New York rallied to tie the game on goals by Mike McEwen and John Tonelli. Tonelli then scored the series-winning goal in overtime.
1993 Divisional Finals (Islanders won in 7): In another classic series between these two teams, the Isles forced a Game 7 with a 7-5 victory in Game 6. In Game 7 David Volek scored to clinch the series for the Isles in overtime.
Game Two between the Islanders and Penguins is set to air on the TSN, NBCSN and MSG Plus networks with face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
