Cosmos Sign Three More Players to Roster

The New York Cosmos announced on Friday that three players have signed with the club as defender Hunter Gorskie and keepers Jimmy Maurer and Chad Calderone now join the roster.

Gorskie a Marlboro, NJ-native is 22-years old and stands at 5-11 just graduated from Stanford University, where he spent his senior season as team captain. Hunter was a member of the U-18 US men’s national team pool and made 63 appearances during his college career.

“Hunter is a smart, strong defender with a versatile skill set,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “He is a hard-worker that I expect will grow well with the Cosmos and contend for a starting spot.”

Maurer, is 24-years of age is an American goalkeeper who played last season with Universidad de Concepcion in the Chilean Primera Division. Prior to the stint in South America, Maurer spent the 2011 season playing for the Atlanta Silverbacks in the NASL.

Jimmy who is a graduate of South Carolina started 78 games of his four-year collegiate career with the Gamecocks, recording the second-most shutouts in school history (28).

“Jimmy has a lot of experience for his age and impressed at our combine back in February,” Savarese said. “He’s very reliable with good composure and demeanor in the net and I expect him compete with Kyle [Reynish] for our starting keeper.”

Calderone, a native of Rockville Center, New York is 32-years old and stands at 6-1 had most recently played for the New York Pancyprian-Freedoms of the USASA. Prior to that Chad played for the Cosmos U-23 team; which includes their 2011 match against the Manchester United in the Paul Scholes Testimonial.

“Chad is one of the best keepers in New York City and we’re excited for him to join New York’s team,” Savarese said.
