New York concludes a five-game road trip tonight with their fifth and final matchup against the Devils. Thus far these two rivals split the first four games of the season series, with the Islanders winning the most recent contest 5-1 on 2/16.
The Islanders could not capitalize on an extended power play in the 2-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. Pittsburgh ended the Islanders’ three-game winning streak and a four-game road winning streak.
The loss also saw John Tavares’ five-game point streak (4g/1a) came to a close, as well as Matt Moulson’s three-game assist streak.
Coming down the stretch:
Of the Islanders remaining 13 games, eight are on the road, where the club is 10-5-1 this season.
The Islanders announced on Monday that Andres Lee has agreed to terms on a two-year, entry-level deal.
Lee, 22, led the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in goals (20) and points (38) this season as a junior at the University of Notre Dame. The Edina, MN native captained the Fighting Irish to a 17-8-3-2 record, which was good for second place in the CCHA and a spot in the NCAA Championship Tournament.
The franchise also announced that Ryan Strome has been reassigned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.
Islestones to watch for:
Andrew MacDonald is one assist shy of 50
Marty Reasoner is three goals shy of 100
The Islanders and Devils game is slated to air on the MSG Plus network, with face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
