Islanders vs. Capitals 3/26/13

Here are some notes for those fans getting ready to watch the New York Islanders (14-15-3) who are on the road to take on the Washington Capitals (15-16-1) in NHL action tonight.

The Islanders are opening up a four-game road trip tonight with their second matchup of the season against the Capitals. In their first meeting this year the Islanders skated to a 5-2 victory on Long Island, the turning point was a John Tavares goal that broke open a 2-2 tie.

Isles Recap:

The Islanders blanked the Florida Panthers on 3/24 thanks to Evgeni Nabokov, who stopped all 26 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season.

Defense has been the Key in Isles victories:

Islanders’ defensemen have scored goals in five-straight games. The Isles defense has 19 goals this season.

Dishing it out:

Matt Moulson has eight assists in his last eight games. He leads the Islanders with 22 assists and ranks second in scoring with 33 points.

The Director of Homeland Security:

Evgeni Nabokov has been in the cage for 27-of-32 Islanders game this season; only four keepers have played more games. Nabokov’s 55 shutouts rank him 19th all-time and third among active goalies.

Matt Moulson is one assist shy of 100

The Islanders and Capitals game is set to air on the MSG Plus network with face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
