Islanders vs. Capitals 3/9/13

Here are some notes for those fans getting ready to watch the New York Islanders (10-11-3) play host to the Washington Capitals (10-11-1) in NHL action at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

New York will conclude a seven-game homestand tonight against Washington. This is the first of three meetings this season, and the only match on Long Island. New York holds a 2-0-3 record in their last five games against Washington, including a 2-0-2 record last season.

Isles Recap:

The Isles played tough, but dropped a 2-1 overtime heartbreaker to their Big Apple Rivals the New York Rangers. Scoring the lone goal for the Orange and Blue was Michael Grabner. Meanwhile, in the cage Evgeni Nabokov had 54 minutes of shutout hockey be denied by a tenacious Rangers offensive squad, who was led by Rick Nash.

Moulson Milestones:

Matt Moulson has played in 299 NHL career games, his current games-played streak stands at 270 games, as he has yet to miss an Islanders game In his young career.

Isles On Fire:

Michael Grabner is on a three-game goal scoring streak, while Colin McDonald has four points (1g/3a) in his last four games. Kyle Okposo has four points (1g/3a) in his last four games, and Brad Boyes has three points (1g/2a) in his last three games.

Islestones to watch for:

Matt Moulson is one game play shy of 300 and nine assist shy of 100

Josh Bailey is two goals shy of 50

Travis Hamonic is two assist shy of 50

The Islanders and Capitals game is set to air on the MSG Plus Network, with face-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
