Knicks vs. Raptors 2/13/12

Here are some notes for those fans set to watch the New York Knicks (32-17) take on the Toronto Raptors (19-32) in NBA action at Madison Square Garden.

This is the first of four meetings between the two teams, while also being the first of two at the Garden. New York and Toronto tied in the season series play against each other last season, with each team winning at home and on the road.

Carmelo Anthony paced the Knicks with 21.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in three meetings last season. Tyson Chandler added 10.8 points and 8.5 boards in four battles with the Raptors.

Recent Meetings:

The Knicks struggled on offense, shooting 32-85 from the field (.376) and because of that fell to the Raptors by a final of 96-79. Pacing the offense was Amar’e Stoudemire, who had 17 points and six rebounds. Steve Novak tallied 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from downtown off the bench.

Knicks Recap:

In their last game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, the Knicks fell by a score of 102-88 as the guys were held to 18 fourth quarter points in the loss. Carmelo Anthony led the offense with 42 points and eight rebounds in over 43 minutes.

This was Anthony’s fifth 40-point performance, which is tied with Kevin Durant for first in the NBA. Carmelo is leading the NBA in first quarter scoring this season at 8.7 points.

This Date in Knicks History:

The Knicks have done well on February 13 as on this day in 1970 the team was able to defeat Philadelphia at the Spectrum 151-106 (second highest point total in franchise history). Cazzie Russell led all scorers with 35 points and eight rebounds.

In more recent history Nate Robinson became the first three-time Slam Dunk Champion in NBA history in 2010.

The Knicks and Raptors are set to play on the MSG Network with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
