Mets bolster backstop position with acquisition of Shoppach

The New York Mets announced on Tuesday that they have acquired catcher Kelly Shoppach from the Boston Red Sox.

Shoppach, who has been known to call a very good game behind the dish, brings a career .227 batting-average to New York, while belting out 64 homers and driving in 197 RBI’s.

The Mets who claimed Shoppach for a player to be named later, as the franchise was able to place a wavier claim for the newest edition to the line-up who is expected to make his debut on Wednesday.
