New York Jets and PSAL announce $5,000 Play Like A Jet Scholarship Winner

The New York Jets and Public School Athletic League (PSAL) announced their third annual Play Like a Jet scholarship winners, as C’Ara McCrea and Brutus Gorum were the female and representatives from the PAL, who exceled both on and off the field.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan is slated to present the scholarship worth $5,000 to McCrea and Gorum, prior to the start of the team’s mini-camp on Wednesday. McCrea was a star Track and Field athlete at Frederick Douglas, and finished up her year strong finishing with a new season-best time of 1:06.96 in the 400m at the PSAL Manhattan Borough Championships, which was good for fourth place at the meet.

Gorum, meanwhile, was a part of the Harry S. Truman football team, finishing up playing nine total games, recording three touchdowns and 18 total points.

The Jets have been partners with the PSAL for over 10 years, resulting in another great program called the ‘Heads Up Program’, which allows New York City Public School athletes to play football safely through a $150,000 donation each year to the Public School Athletic League.
