Though it was only one game, the 4-3 shootout loss for the New York Rangers (31-12-5) on Tuesday night was not the start to the second half the Blueshirts wanted. The team will be looking to rebound in a 7:30 pm face-off against the Buffalo Sabres.
Expected to return to the cage for the Blueshirts is All-Star Henrik Lundqvist, after receiving a day off after participating in the two-day event in Ottawa. ‘Hank’ has gone 22-10-4 in his starts, posting a 1.87 GAA, while also recording two shutouts in the last four games.
In the last meeting against the Sabres on December 10th, winger Carl Hagelin had his first multi-goal game, as the ‘energizer bunny’ scored twice with one goal coming short-handed. Since that time Hagelin has speed his way to more playing time, and into the hearts of Rangers fans everywhere.
The rookie-winger has recorded 11 points (four goals, seven assists in the last 15 games). Blueshirts captain Ryan Callahan has tallied five points (three goals, two assists) in the last five games. All-Star MVP Marian Gaborik has seven points (two goals, five assists) in the last six games.
New York has registered at least one point in 31 of their last 40 games (28-9-3) dating back to Oct. 29, after beginning the season with a 3-3-2 mark.
