Isles momentum stopped by Toronto: 3-0

The New York Islanders (19-22-6) had a three-game winning streak snapped by a 3-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs (24-19-5) in NHL action on Monday. Isles John Tavares 12-game point streak was also snapped in the loss.

Matthew Lombardi (6) scored twice to lead the Leafs offense; Lombardi’s two goals were   sandwiched in with a tally by Phil Kessel (26) at the 8:18 mark in the third period.  Islanders’ keeper Evgeni Nabokov was named NHL Third Star of the Week, made 32 saves.

Matt Martin led the Islanders physical play with eight hits, while Andrew MacDonald and Mark Streit led the defense with four blocked shots.

The home-and-home series between these two teams will wrap-up at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday. The game between the Isles and the Leafs is scheduled to air on the MST Plus 2 network, with face-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
