The New York Rangers (29-12-4) have been unable to put together a consistent string of games, as it has been a mini roller coaster of wins and losses for the Blueshirts. The inability to put together a strong stretch of games cost New York in the 4-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins (25-17-4) in hockey action on Thursday.
Pittsburgh now seems to have a hot streak in the victory column, as the Penguins have skated to four straight games, snapping a six-game slump. Evgeni Malkin (24) scored twice, including the empty-netter to ice the victory to lead the Penguins offense.
Malkin now has seven goals in four games, as the center continues to provide offense for the Sidney Crosby-less Penguins. Also recording goals for Pittsburgh were Chris Kunitz (14) and Richard Park (4).
Tallying the lone goal for New York was ‘Energizer Bunny’ Carl Hagelin (8) on a snap shot at the 10:06 mark in the second period of play. The Rangers were 0-for-2 in the power play, making them 0-for-14 in seven games.
Keeper Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves on the day of his ‘Crown Collection’ clothing line. The Swedish cager will have a crown logo with the number 30 at the center, is now on sale at Madison Square Garden retail stores, with proceeds going to the Garden of Dreams Foundation.
