The New York Rangers (25-9-4) are flying high after a 3-2 overtime victory over the Florida Panthers (20-13-7) on Thursday night. New York has now picked-up wins in eight of their past nine games, as they head to Pittsburgh for a game against the Penguins.
New York now stands atop the NHL standings, thanks to the game-winning goal by Marian Gaborik (23), who took a season-high 41 shots in the game. Also scoring for the Blueshirts in the victory were Anton Stralman, who recorded his first in a Rangers’ uniform and captain Ryan Callahan (14), who now has a six-game point streak.
Martin Biron continues to play well for New York in his starts in the cage, as the netminder made 19 saves in giving teammate Henrik Lundqvist a day to rest. Biron started for the fourth time in nine games is proving to be a nice one-two punk with ‘King’ Hank.
The Blueshirts’ have enjoyed their trips to Pittsburgh, as they have won four visits in a row in Steel City. Gaborik has helped to lead the Rangers with his three goals and four assists in the past six meetings.
The game between the Rangers and Penguins is scheduled to air on the NHL, as well as the MSG Plus-2 networks, with the face-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
