Positive Nielsen ratings for Isles in shootout victory over Wild

Skating with heart, hustle and fire the New York Islanders (10-14-6) found positive ‘Nielsen’ ratings in a 2-1 shootout victory over the Minnesota Wild (20-9-4) on Saturday night. It was a night of many happy returns for the Isles, who had Andrew MacDonald and Nino Niederreiter return to the roster.

It was also a homecoming night for winger Kyle Okposo, who skated like a man inspired in front of friends and family.

MacDonald made an immediate impact on his return, scoring his second goal of the season at the 11:13 mark in the second period, to open up the scoring for the Isles. Andrew also scored his first goal of the year against Minnesota in October.

One errant play by New York, allowed for the Wild to get back into the game at the 8:22 mark of the third period, when Cal Clutterbuck (9) recorded a wrister tying the game at one. After a very intense overtime, these two teams went into the shootout frame to decide the victor.

The Isles recorded their first extra-session victory when Frans Nielsen broke out the patented backhanded shot for a well-earned two points.  Holding the team steady throughout the night was New York keeper Al Montoya who made 20 saves in the game.

New York will look to continue their road-winning ways with a Tuesday trip to Winnipeg to take on the Jets. The Isles/Jets game is scheduled to air on the MSG Plus 2 network, with face-off slated for 8:30 p.m.
