Carl connects twice to lead Rangers’ to 4-1 victory over Sabres

New York Rangers (16-6-4) rookie-sensation Carl Hagelin (3) scored twice in the 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres (15-12-2) in hockey action on Saturday night.  Thanks to the efforts by the winger the Blueshirts now have their 2,500thregular-season win.

Hagelin, who is playing in his eighth NHL game, opened up the scoring for New York with 8:26 left in the second period. Buffalo responded quickly on a Thomas Vanek goal at the 12:38 mark of the frame, to tie things up at one.

Rangers’ captain Ryan Callahan (12) ensured his squad skated away with a lead, by netting a shorthanded goal at the 18:51 mark. Hagelin aka the Blueshirts’ energizer bunny worked his magic again at the 3:02 mark, as keeper Martin Biron (32 saves) earned his first assist of the year-setting up the third goal of the game.

Marian Gaborik (14) capped-off the scoring for the Rangers on a power play goal at the 17:26 mark, as New York was able to skate away with the 4-1 victory. There will be no rest for this weary Blueshirts’ squad, as the guys are traveling back to Manhattan for a Sunday night showdown with the Panthers.

The game between New York and Florida is slated to air on the MSG network, with face-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
