Dale Weise forced an overtime frame for the New York Rangers, but the Blueshirts still fell to their arch-rivals the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night hockey action. Weise was picked by the Rangers in the fourth round in the 2008 NHL Entry Level Draft-recorded the lone goal with 4:21 to play in the third period.
Keepers Henrik Lundqvist stopped 17 of 18 shots; while Cam Talbot made 22 saves-including some amazing third period stopped which propelled the Blueshirts to the third period. The Devils meanwhile were led by second-chance tryout Petr Sykora….who put the team ahead on a wrister from the right circle at the 11:34 mark.
Patrik Elias tailed the game-winner 45 second into the overtime frame to lead New Jersey to the first pre-season victory. In the cage for the Devils was Union College product Keith Kinkaid, who stopped 10 pucks for New Jersey.
The two arch-rivals will meet one last time, as the series heads to Newark, NJ for a 7:00 p.m. face off this Friday.
