Taking a look at the New York Rangers

The New York Rangers (44-33-5) made the 2010-11 NHL Playoffs, but were not able to push past the Washington Capitals, made the biggest free agent news with the acquisition of center Brad Richards in the off season.New York

Richards will be one of the players the Blueshirts will look to lead this team to the second round and beyond in the upcoming 2011-12 season.

The center isn’t the only key for the Rangers, as several key players are also returning to help this team to their playoff glory. Here’s a look at players to watch for this season:

Ryan Callahan: One of the two choices for the Captains ‘C’ this season, the winger finished the 2010-11 season with 48 points for the Blueshirts. Callahan was the recipient of the Players’ Player award-which is something that was voted upon by his teammates. The winger also recorded his 100 career NHL point with the Rangers on October 23.

Brandon Dubinsky: The center leads the Blueshirts in goals (24), assists (30) and points (54) last season, is a vital part to the Blueshirts this season. Dubinsky recorded his 100 career NHL assist on February 1, was the second best playoff player recording two goals and one assist.

Henrik Lundqvist:  The King will look to continue to dominate the cage for the Rangers this season. The keeper finished with a 36 wins for the Blueshirts last season. Lundqvist showed that he can shutdown some of the NHL best, in recording his 25 career shutout on October 30.

Look for backup keeper Martin Biron to come back with a vengeance this season. Biron, who is returning from a fractured collarbone, will look to continue his stellar play-as he posted a career high in save percentage (.923) in 17 games with the Rangers.

The Blueshirts will start the preseason schedule on September 21 in a game in Albany, NY against Atlantic Division-rival the New Jersey Devils at 7:00 p.m.
