Normally starter C.C. Sabathia is about as reliable as any when you need someone to stop a losing streak, the lefty on the verge of his 20th win though continued his struggles-failing to hold a fifth-inning lead; as the New York Yankees (90-59) were defeated 5-4 by the Toronto Blue Jays (76-74) on Friday night.
The Yankees lost its second straight game on the last at-bat, as the Bombers have a 3-5 record on a 10-game trip that concludes with this series in Toronto.
Sabathia just didn’t have his good stuff on the mound tonight, as the lefty only had his slider working for him tonight. CC only tossed 5.2 innings giving up a whopping 10 hits, though the ace did strike out eight-in a no decision start.
Leading the Bombers offense were Nick Swisher and Robinson Cano, who both had two hits each. Swisher did drive in two runs in the game-to edge his teammate in that department. The Yankees were only able to tally five hits, as a surprising power outage seems to have hit the team on this road trip.
Possibly helping with renewing that vaunted lineup is the return of Alex Rodriguez, who is slated to comeback on Saturday. That is when Game Two of this series will happen as Bartolo Colon (8-9, 3.55 ERA) takes on Henderson Alvarez (1-2, 3.09 ERA). The first pitch is slated for 1:07 p.m.
