The New York Yankees (77-50) recorded three home runs, but could not muscle their way past the Oakland Athletics (59-70), as the Bombers fell in extra innings by a final of 6-4 on Wednesday.

Nick Swisher recorded two-of-the three homers to lead the Yankees to extra frames, but relief pitcher Rafael Soriano gave up a three-run homer to Coco Crisp (7), giving the A’s a 6-3 lead.

Swisher homered for the second straight time in the bottom of the frame, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Yankees to victory.  Rounding out the Bombers offensive stars were Derek Jeter and Eduardo Nunez, who both finished with two hit nights.

Oakland meanwhile were able to record five extra-base hits, as Crisp had a four hit night, with two-of the-four leaving the ball park. Oakland third baseman Scott Sizemore recorded two doubles (18), while second baseman Jemile Weeks scored a double (15) to round out the offensive night.

Voorhees, NJ-native and Wagner product Andrew Bailey picked up the save for the Athletics, sitting down three Yankees batter, and only giving up the one homer to Swisher.

Yankees starter C.C. Sabathia left the game with a no-decision tonight, after pitching 7.1 innings, striking out seven batters, while also giving up seven hits. The ace-lefty was pulled in the top of the seventh, after giving up two Oakland hits.

New York were able to push the game to extra innings thanks to a home run (35) by Mark Teixeira in the bottom of the eighth-which had tied the game up at the time. Crisp hit his three-run shot in the top of the 10^th to lead Oakland to their second straight victory over the Bombers.

In the finale on Thursday the Yankees will send out starter Phil Hughes (4-4, 5.75 ERA) to the hill to take on Rich Harden (4-2, 3.91 ERA) with the first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m.
