The New York Mets (70-73) must have felt like they were hit by a hurricane all over again, as the Atlanta Braves (84-60) looked like a fresher and more hungry baseball team in the doubleheader sweep at Citi Field today-with the final scores being 6-5, 5-1 on Thursday night.

Chipper Jones combined for a three-hit day against the Mets, with one of those hits being a grand slam in Game One. The Met-killer also lifted a sacrifice fly, and a double, to record two-RBI’s in the second game.

New York made things close in Game One, as Jason Bay continues to swing a hot stick for the Mets. The left fielder hit a grand slam to give the Mets the 4-3 lead in the bottom of the first.

Chris Schwinden, made his MLB Debut with the Mets, had an okay outing. The righty tossed five innings, giving up eight hits, but was able to sit down four batters.

Three Mets players were able to record two-hits in the first game, as Bay, Justin Turner and Lucas Duda all had multi-hit games.

In the second game, Bay was in the thick of the offense yet again, as the outfielder lifted a sacrifice fly-that tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.

Braves catcher David Ross led the offensive surge for Atlanta, as his two-RBI’s lead to the sweep of the Mets.

Dillon Gee (L, 12-6) tossed a six inning game, striking out six batters giving up four hits and three runs. Continuing to impress in his relief outings in New York is screwball specialist Daniel Herrera, who pitched in both games for the Mets.

The lone multi-hit hero for New York in the second game was catcher Josh Thole, as the Mets finished the night with a total of seven hits in the game.

Now the Mets will have a three-game set with the Chicago Cubs starting on Friday.  Game One will feature starter Mike Pelfrey (7-11, 4.68 ERA) taking on Casey Coleman (2-7, 6.61 ERA).  The first pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m.
