El Nino-Nino Niederreiter struck for two power play goals, but his New York Islanders rookie team fell to the Boston Bruins prospect club by a final of 8-5 on Monday night hockey action.
In a seesaw affair at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, that saw the Bruins tally two unanswered goals in the third period of play for the victory. Niederreiter looked good though in his first return to the Coliseum. ‘El Nino’s’ second power play goal at the 5:01 mark of the third period of play cut the Bruins lead to 6-5.
Sadly though for the Isles prospect, they were penalized for six goals-which allowed a very impressive Boston Bruins rookie team to take over the game. There was a ton of bright moments for Islanders fans, as Kirill Kabanov had a goal and an assist, while Casey Cizikas also had two assists.
The Islanders rookies posted a total of nine points, as a true team effort was displayed on the ice on Monday night. Blue liner Calvin de Haan recorded three total points for the New York rookie team. The defenseman is one to watch out for, as his two-way play on the ice maybe something that will bring him to the Coliseum in the up-and-coming season.
In injury news Rhett Rakhshani suffered a concussion during the course of the rookie game. There has been no update on the right winger’s injury and when the team may see the return of the AHL prospect.
These New York rookies will have a chance to even things upon Tuesday night at Nassau Coliseum, for the second half of these back-to-back games.
