The first group of New York Rangers hit the ice for Day One of Training Camp, as the Blueshirts begin their march to the Stanley Cup. Captain Ryan Callahan, Marc Staal and Dan Girardi all took part of head coach John Tortorella’s brutal conditioning program today.
It was announced that Artem Anisimov, who had a MRI after a knee issue was discovered during his physical. Thankfully for fans of the Blueshirts the MRI came up negative, though the team is unsure when he will return to the ice.
Looking to prove himself in his second season with the team is Wojtek Wolski, who completely overhauled his off-season workout regime-according to a report on the Blueshirts United page. Wojtek is expected to provide more scoring for the Blueshirts, after recording 19 points in 37 games last season.
There are a ton of high expectations for Wojtek, as he’ll be on the same line as Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik on the top line.
Gaborik was not in attendance in the first day, as he was attending the funeral for his good friend Pavol Demitra. Michael Sauer was also sidelined with tendonitis in his knee, and there is no word on when Sauer is scheduled to skate with the team.
