This is what the MLS is all about, the intensity, how physical things can be during the match day and oh yeah all the drama that is going to be built as the season comes closer and closer to playoffs.
All New York City FC needed to do was to get a win, and they were able to do that against a very competitive Atlanta Untied Team at Citi Field.
Seeing goals from Nico Fernandez Mercau and a beauty from Benie Traore for what was the biggest sigh of relief in being able to get three points at home.
Atlanta United were a challenge though for sure as a goal that was called back and an eventual goal from Breel Embolo got them into the match.
There were some tremendous plays by the New York City FC defense including goalkeeper Matt Freese and some very clutch defensive plays by Kevin O’Toole.

Freese was one of the many members of the Milestone Moment club, as with his five saves in the match he was able to eclipse 100 in the 2026 MLS Regular season.
Midfielder Andres Perea got his 100th appearance with the club and Keaton Parks got his 200th -career MLS appearance as well.
This with the loss by the Red Bulls is keeping the playoff hope alive for the Boys in Blue and sets the stage for one of the most exciting days for the team to be played on 10/31/26 when they face CF Montreal.
That is going to be another must win as not only are the Red Bulls in contention but also Columbus and a few other teams as well. Ultimately the guys are going to once again focus and play the same type of game that they did today and see what the results can happen in that match though.
Overall, they should be really proud of the performance for today through and how they were able to stay levelheaded against Atlanta, especially there were many moments when things got very feisty between the two teams, but NYCFC kept themselves and the playoff chances alive with the levelheadedness that they showed.
