There was hope for the Boys in Blue on a beautiful Saturday in Queens, New York. New York City FC have themselves a chance to content for the 2026 MLS playoffs, with the latest 1-1 draw against LAFC that chance is still in play but they NEED to win the rest of hte matches.
In front of a great crowd both teams NY and LA played a great quality of soccer and not only that but fans that were in attendance got to see Son Heung-min play in a rare East Coast apperance.
New York City FC did well in defending the forward throughout the night and made sure that he was kept off the scoreboard.
Scoring for both sides were Leo Walta and Andres Perea, for Perera the set piece goal is the 13th ever. In addition, the goal was the first against LAFC in regular season play.
Some of the more impressive things for the Boys in Blue were how they were able to maintain possession of the ball throughout the match, in addition to the fact that they did some really nice work on the defensive side of the ball.

After his match against LA though they need to find a way to get goals though, so they can continue to show what they can do in the MLS Playoffs.
There were a ton of milestones and things that were very impressive throughout the night.
The milestone moments for NYCFC included Nico Fernández Mercau getting his first ever MLS assist, and his 10th career MLS Regular Season assist.
Another impressive milestone was Midfielder Hannes Wolf being able to see his 100 career MLS appearances for the Club, including the MLS Regular Season and MLS Cup Playoffs. Forward Talles Magno’s 100th career MLS Regular Season appearance for New York City FC as well.
The good news for the squad is that they are going to play against Atlanta United and CF Montreal at Citi Field after going to Florida to face Orlando.
As of right now they have technically two ways to get in but knowing those that love and support the team, them winning matches is what the hope is so that they can for sure get that spot and continue to play in this 2026 season.
The first task is to go to Orlando and face Orlando City SC, in the team’s previous meeting on March 7 saw a 5-0 victory. If somehow or the other the guys can reclaim the scoring touch they can hopefully do well on the road and come back to Queens to face Atlanta United and a challenging test there.
For now, though the focus and preparation is Orlando and hope is still alive for the Boys in Blue and them hoping to see the 2026 MLS Playoffs.
