The Leagues Cup 2026 is a thrilling tournament so far with the Quarterfinal Round continuing to bring the passion and intensity of the sport of soccer to fans.
Austin FC and Toluca put on an impressive display of defense, and Toluca showed what it is to be able to play intengentilly wiht the possession of the ball in a 2-0 victory for Toluca at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
The MLS Austin FC had shown some tremendous defense throughout the Leagues Cup Tournament as they were able to defeat Club Tijuana and gained draws against Club América and Uzuni.

As for Toluca, they were able to defeat the 2025 League Cup Champ the Seattle sounders and earned the quarterfinal spot by defeating FC Dallas by a final of 3-1. The only loss was against Los Angeles FC by a final of 1-0.
Even though Austin FC held their own, a flurry of Red Cards made the match, though Toluca did show a ton of great tatics as well.
It was in the 53′ that a penalty by Helinho opened the scoring and from there Toluca showed a great veteran prence in being able to control the tempo of the match as well as the pace in the 90′ +7′ Jorge Díaz Price netted the second goal and got the stage set for what is going to be an all Liga MX Semis.
This is a first ever for the Leagues Cup having the Mexican teams all in the Semis as Club Leon is facing Toluca and CF Monterrey v Club America, the two matches are scheduled on September 1 and 2.
Club America was able to defeat the Columbus Crew by a final of 2-0 to set the stage for one of the fiercest ‘modern rivarlies’ in Mexican Soccer in facing C.F. Monterrey on the other side of the bracket.
Toluca and Club Leon are no strangers to each other, as they have faced each other at least twice a year in domestic league action. Things maybe a goal fest between these two clubs as they average a 3.58 goals pers game rate.
For Toluca the victory was a first at Sports Illustrated Stadium, as the team had the venue of choice as they earned ‘hosting privileges’ as one of the top-ranked Liga MX seeds.
That is going to be the format for the rest of the Leagues Cup Tournament when it comes time for the venue and things are being announced with where the rest of the matches are to be played.
