Currently sitting in fifth place in the MLS standings New York City FC and Toronto played to a very intense 1-1 draw at Yankee Stadium.
With the stadium celebrating Harry Potter Night, there was no spell to be able to help to gain the three points on this day, though the team played very well and had themselves opportunities to find the back of the net.
The match for the home side started on a fine note as the stadium got to see a treat on a converted penalty by Nico Fernández Mercau.
Mercau now leads the team with his 13 goals and is now tied for first in the MLS Golden Boot race. In addition Nico is now in the history books of the franchise as he is tied for second in history for MLS regular season penalty kick goals.
On an ultimate high the team played really well defensively as well as having many attempts to score.
It was a goal by Djordje Mihailović to tie things up for Toronto and after that it was all trying to see what side would eventually get the three points.
There was a milestone moment for the squad when later on in the match Hannes Wolf came in as a sub, during that moment he became a member of the 100th appearance club and was an instant spark to the team and how they were able to create scoring opportunities.

Those in attendance got to see the first start for Forward Bénie Traoré with the team, and it should be fascinating to see how he is going to be able to help the team during the Second Half of the season.
Before the start of the match the team had a wonderful feature story playing on the video screens on Traoré so that the supporters can rally behind the newest member of the roster.
The team now has to shift gears and get themselves ready for a challenge of a different kind as they are about to participate in Leagues Cup play.
On August 6 NYCFC faces Santos Laguna for the first time. Those that are attending Sports Illustrated Stadium that match are going to see a Liga MX squad that is highly aggressive and with a vertical style of play.
New York City FC has faired well whenever the League Cup comes to the schedule, many fans may remember the 2024 season when the team when on an incredible run to the quarterfinal round. This year’s squad for sure has a ton of potential and it should be fascinating to see how they do on 8/6.
