Going on the road in Chicago and gaining three points was something that is going to be a huge moment for the Red Bulls of New York before returning to Sports Illustrated Stadium.
The next two against Columbus and New York City FC are going to show those that follow the team as to the steps that they are and the direction that they are taking to ensure that a great quality and brand of soccer is being played on a match by match basis and that is exactly what Head Coach Michael Bradley and Matthew Dos Santos got to share when it came time for the team’s zoom information session held on Monday.
Dos Santos, one of the many that is leading the team’s youth movement, is showing the MLS that franchises can have quality that comes from the Academy and the MLS Next Pro teams joining the roster.
Thus far he has made 12 appearances in 10 starts and plays at left back and talked about his journey to the main roster.
“It is nice to be seen as the guys that are developing and playing in the MLS now,” Matty had said during the media Q and A. “We are really focused on what we are doing and finding a good balance between the match days and the training thus far.”
Matty playing in 73 minutes in the team’s 3-1 victory in Chicago, played a big part in the team’s defense, while also completing 21 accurate passes (68%).
“To be able to get three points on the road were very important,” Dos Santos said. “Overall as a team we were able to continue what we were doing in training but just put more of a commitment to the defending aspect to things.”
For a guy like Matty this is all an adventure with getting the promotion from the MLS Next Pro squad to now playing on the primary roster and that is something that he reflected on by saying, “As a whole I am wanting to improve, and also want to improve as a defender as well.:
As for the overall trip to Chicago and what that was like to be able to gain points on the road that was something that Coach Bradley reflect on as he stated, “I am very proud of the guys for being able to get points against Chicago and especially what was not easy conditions. They were tough for them, but the mentality of the group and the way were were able to work on things and paply them to the match in a good way is something I am particularly happy with.”
This stretch is the most critical for Coach and the Club as all of MLS is about to be paused for the FIFA Tournament to be played in the US.
Expected to play for country in the FIFA Tournament are Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty as he is expected to play with Team Canada. There is a possibility that fans can see Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting playing with Cameroon.
Before any of that though is the home match against Columbus and New York City FC.
Amazingly enough NYCFC and Columbus just played each other and the rivals of the Red Bulls played well, so there is a chance that the Crew are going to be heading to the New Jersey Area hoping to get some points before the FIFA Tournament.
The same is going to be for the Red Bulls though as they are for sure wanting to show quality and great play in front of the home crowd.
Red Bull and the Crew are to play on May 13 at 7:30 p.m. with the match airing on the Apple TV streaming platform.
