New York City FC shows creativity but falls to DC United at Citi Field

The 2026 Season thus far is one heck of a roller coaster ride for New York City FC, as just as when it has seem as if they gain momentum with points they then bump into a tough test.

At Citi Field on a beautiful Sunday afternoon the latest tough test was DC United, as the guys threw everything that they could at the Eastern Conference foe .

For DC United the day was one that really helped them and propelled them as two goals from Louis Munteanu gave them not only three points but also got them into fifth place in the MLS Standings.

New York City FC, seeming to now struggle in home matches are currently in Ninth place in the MLS Standings and trying to see if they can solve the puzzle of how to win matches.

Not only win matches, but win matches at Citi Field, as one of the homes of the team the guys are featuring a 0-2-0 mark in Queens.

There were some positive trends and guys getting to see quality time on the pitch, as Malachi Jones, Strahinja Tanasijević and Nico Cavallo each made their first starts in the MLS Regular Season.

Also making the first home appearance in the MLS Season was Andrés Perea

Head Coach Pascal Jansen gave clarity and answers as to what the team is going to do to try to get back on track and all of these thoughts as well as others can be seen in the team’s press conference seen here…video is compliments of New York City FC

Fans in attendance also got to see one of the more athletic performances in the goal keeper position by Matt Freese as well, and an overall well played performance when it came time for possession, defense and trying to create opportunities.

It is just a matter of now continuining to work hard in practices and seeing what can create the guys more chances on the offensive side so they can get back to gaining points again.

For now the training sessions for the squad is going to be vital as the test and next steps are going to become more and more challenging.

The next test coming on May 10 against Columbus is going to be at Yankee Stadium, where the guys have been playing well as they have seen a 5-0 victory against Orlando and a 3-1 victory against Colorado.

There is as always a ton of work being put in by the team in these next days to get themselves ready for that next test.

For now for the fans and supporters is it all about the waiting and aniticipating and to see what is going to happen in those quiet moments of training.

The coutdown begins for that next test.
